Get Running Beginners Luck
Starting running, either for the first time or following an extended period out, is always a fun time. There are always excuses to be found, tiredness or iffy weather. At CheapingFit we always encourage runners to join one of the amazing and welcoming running groups for added motivation. Not only will you be supported by fellow runners but you can find advice from more experienced runners in terms of technique and setting goals. It is always a special moment to have your name cheered by your crew mates when you get running.
But where to start? One of the best free beginners running groups around is definitely the Chasing Lights Backpackers crew. These guys know how to show the love to new runners, giving personal and crew support to everyone who attends. Every Wednesday from 18:45 at Lulu Lemon on Regents Street, Chasing Lights Collective warm up together before heading off in three pace groups. Jog Walk, Jog and Joggier. Another brilliant way to get running is Park Run, a series of 5km weekly runs for runners of all abilities. With a weekly Saturday morning run and multiple sites around the country, Park Run is a great way to get running and improve your distance and time, regardless of your ability. The race organisers track your time and send you a link with your race details, and runners span athletes finishing their 5km in sub-20 minute times to 80 year olds enjoying being active and keeping fit. Speeding up and running longer
If you’re already an experienced runner then joining a free run club is a great way to improve. Although you’re probably hitting the trail or reaching your goals, running with others to push yourself further and share your running passion can be exhilarating. Particularly on race day, where for may crews the rule is “if you can’t race then you can pace, and if you can’t pace then you can cheer”. This changes the vibe completely, building great relationships with other runners around you or in taking a leadership role with newer runners to help them get running.
Of course one solid way to improve your running is to hit the track and fortunately, or rather because of the passion shown by others, there are some awesome free track sessions worth joining.
One of the best track sessions around is Track Mafia, running each Thursday from the track in Padding Recreation ground. Led by the outstanding run coach, Cory, and supported by am enthusiastic and supported leadership group, Track Mafia focusses on speed sessions that pay dividends. Running in four weekly cycles, Track Mafia are one of the best free runs you can find. Check them out.
Track East is another free weekly track session designed to get your improving your running times.
